Cost Loading with Stored Period Actuals (Oracle Primavera P6): Scenario 1

Cost loading a schedule using a single material resource that is set up to auto calculate $ from Units. Each unit is equal to 1 $. You may substitute multiple resources if desired and follow the same steps.

  1. Financial Periods need to be defined by your P6 Admin. They can be defined weekly, Monthly, Quarterly whatever meets your reporting needs. But Only one set per database.

  2. Resources Created with $ Associated.

  3. In the Activities Window, select the activities to be cost loaded and assign the resource adjusting the budgeted units to the desired $ amount.

  4. As the resources are assigned the $ are also assigned on a flat curve by default. This can be changed if required.

  5. The allocation of $ is adjusted automatically to the time scale based on your selection of Day/week/month or financial period.

  6. The Activity Usage Spreadsheet can also be used to see and report on the cost spread. It also is linked to the timescale. Many reports can be created and run monthly to show this info if required they can also dump this data into csv file which you open in Excel.
  7. Once the progress is entered you can report on the Actual this period $ see column 4 above.
  8. After reporting is complete and before the next update you should store the period performance in the correct Financial Period. It is in the Tools menu.


  9. After the “store period performance” utility is run you will see the This Period column go to zero.
  10. You may display this historical record by displaying the financial period columns, which is a two-step process
    • First you must select the periods to be displayed
    • Go to Edit/User Preferences, select Application then set the periods you wish to see.

  11. Second Step is to add the columns to the layout in the Resource detail Tab. These columns can also be added to other various locations for reporting. The Past Period actuals can also be adjusted in this location if required and the user has the correct Privileges.
