- P6 User setup and security has moved from the client to web version starting in version 8
- The steps to setting up users remains the same but the screens look a little different
- Please see the screens below to add or modify P6 users in version 8
Adding and Modifying P6 Users:
- Open P6 Web
- Click on the Administer dropdown and select User Access
- There are four sections under User Access: Users, OBS, Global Security Profiles, and Project Security Profiles
- Click on the Users section to add/modify users
- There are two tabs: Project Access and Module Access
- Project Access determines which Projects the user can see
- Module Access determines which P6 functionality the user has
Module Functionality:
Each module represents either components or distinct role-based functions of the P6 EPPM suite.
These modules are components of P6 EPPM:
Enterprise Reports: Access and run reports.
Integration API: Enables developers to create programs to integrate P6 with other products and generate reports.
P6 Analytics: Access to the star database through Oracle Business Intelligence.
P6 Optional Client: Access to Windows-based application.
Progress Reporter: Allows access to timesheets application.
Web Services: Enables developers to create programs to integrate P6 with other products.
These modules are role-based functions in P6 EPPM. At least one of these modules must be assigned to access P6:
Projects: Allows users to access the Projects section, Project Performance portlets in the Dashboards section, document management, and workflow functionality.
Resources: Allows users to access the Resources section, Resources portlets in the Dashboards section, document management, and workflow functionality.
Portfolios: Allows users to access the Portfolios section, Project Performance portlets, the Portfolio View portlet in the Dashboards section, document management, and workflow functionality.
Team Member: Allows access to the timesheets application as well as limited functionality in P6, such as the Dashboards and Projects sections (Workspace and Activities pages).
- Next Click on the OBS (Organizational Breakdown Structure) section.
- Set each user to the correct OBS
- Click on the Global Security Profile
- Assign each user to a Global Profile. This will control what the user can and can’t do at the Global (Master Dictionary) level. Set the appropriate levels for each of the sections: Administration, Codes, Global Data, Resources, Templates, Tools, Views and Reports.
- Finally, set the Project Security Profile for each user.
- Setup the appropriate project level security for the following sections: Activities, Codes EPS and Projects, Projects Data, Related Applications, Resource Assignments, Timesheets, Tools, Views and Reports.
